Responsible Use of Technology
Helping our students acquire a set of knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required when using digital media to perform tasks, solve problems, communicate, manage information, collaborate, create and share content effectively.
Our aim as educators is to enable our students to be digitally competent and equipped with 21st century skills. Our students should be confident, critical and use technology flexibly for work, leisure, learning and communication.
Digital Citizenship Lessons
Year 4 Lesson Plans
Domain: Access and Inclusion
A research task is assigned to students divided in groups. Some groups carry out the task using digital tools whereas other groups use analogue/offline resources only. This is intended to highlight the disadvantages caused by the lack of access to digital tools.
Domain: Health and Wellbeing
The students will be reflecting and discussing online wellbeing through a set of pictures depicting various scenarios and then demonstrating their learning in a mind map.
Domain: Active Participation
The students will be actively involved in identifying and discussing issues concerning their community. They will be invited to come up with ideas on how these can be addressed. The students will then seek feedback from their school community which is then forwarded to the local council.
Year 5 Lesson Plans
Domain: Ethics & Empathy
This lesson will encourage students to reflect on acceptable online behaviour. The students will demonstrate their understanding through the creation of a quiz.
Domain: Rights and Responsibilities
The students learn about online rights and responsibilities and demonstrate their understanding through the creation of an Internet Use Policy for their class.
Domain: Privacy and Security
This session highlights the importance of being safe online and engages the students in a discussion to help them understand. The students will demonstrate their understanding by creating a slogan about what they discussed in class.
Year 6 Lesson Plans
Domain: ePresence and Communications
In this activity, the students will list their online activities and reflect about them. The will also be presented with various situations through a video and a game which will help them to discuss and understand how their online activities impact their digital footprint.
